High Dosage Methadone Users Can Now Utilize Medical Detox
New Port Richey, FL (PRWEB) July 7, 2008 -- Novus Medical Detox Center (www.novusdetox.com) announced this week that they have successfully detoxed a number of patients that had been taking high daily doses of methadone--something few other medical detox facilities will even attempt. These successful detoxifications were normally completed in under two weeks. Novus has successfully treated patients on as much as 400 milligrams of methadone.
The success of the Novus protocol is the treatment of the individual case as an individual, involving regular monitoring and adjustment. The success of Novus opens the door for many methadone addicts who have been trapped because they were unable to endure the horrible withdrawal symptoms that they faced when they tried to stop taking methadone.
"There are many effective rehabilitation facilities that are successful in helping people become drug-free", states Steven L. Hayes, Director of Novus Medical Detox Center. "However, despite the desire of these rehabilitation facilities to help, few if any will accept someone on a dose of methadone over 80 milligrams per day. More often the methadone addict that calls is told that they must first bring their methadone usage down to 20-40 milligrams per day and the rehabilitation facility will accept them."
Studies show that most methadone addicts who seek help have tried to withdraw or at least cut down their dose of methadone in the past. Almost all of these people were unsuccessful because they began experiencing painful withdrawal symptoms and stopped their taper.
According to Mr. Hayes, "The rehabilitation facilities who are not able to accept these methadone addicts have tried to refer them to medical detox facilities, but they have found that there are very few medical detox facilities that will accept a methadone patient taking over 80 milligrams a day of methadone. Some medical detox facilities are not able to effectively handle the pain of the withdrawal symptoms and the addicts often leave the detox center before completing their withdrawal. Then they have no choice but to go back to the methadone clinic and their despair of ever being free of this addiction grows even more."
Novus has been working for over a year on creating a protocol for people taking high dosages of methadone. One recent patient says," Without this medical detoxification process, I highly doubt I could have lived through getting off methadone and benzos. I was taking up to 400 mg of methadone on a daily basis along with 30 mg of Xanax or 10 mg of Klonopin. I felt completely and utterly hopeless?. Novus not only gave me a clean start, not only gave me hope, it gave me my livelihood and family back. No words could truly express the gratitude I feel."
Replies Mr. Hayes, "Many methadone users still have the dream of being off methadone and being drug-free. Novus Medical Detox Center can and will help a person be free of methadone and able to take the next step, going to a rehabilitation program, so they can achieve their dream of being drug-free."

Teen Addiction To Prescription Drugs
Teens experiment with prescription drugs for many different reasons. Some teens think the drugs will help them to have more fun or to be happier, or lose weight. Because family members could have the prescription, these drugs can be easier to get than street drugs. Prescription drugs are very commonly sold on the street like other illegal drugs as well. Some teens even think a prescription drug, regardless of whom it was prescribed to be safer than an ordinary street drug.

Alcohol & Drug Addiction: Why the "Detox-Rehab Cycle" Doesn't Work
Patricia is a 30 year old woman who started using methamphetamine in her last year in college. She found that it gave her "an edge" in studying and on tests. The problem was that she soon found that if she did not have any "meth", she couldn't function at all. She tried many times to shake the habit, and even went through "rehab" three times.
